 Italian Premier Enrico Letta said he was satisfied at the end of a two-day G8 summit in Northern Ireland at which leaders agreed on the need to promote economic growth and fight unemployment - top priorities for his government. 

 The New York Conference of Italian American Legislators celebrated Italian heritage and presented awards at their annual Legislative Conference Day on June 10.Assemblywoman and President of the Conference, Donna Lupardo, D-Endwell, was joined by other members in the Legislative Offices building for food and to celebrate awards recipients. 

 It was arguably the darkest episode of Italy's postwar history: the kidnapping of former prime minister Aldo Moro in 1978 and the discovery of his corpse 55 days later in the boot of a Renault 4 in central Rome. 

 Italy's high court on Tuesday faulted the appeals court that acquitted American student Amanda Knox of murdering her roommate, saying its ruling was full of "deficiencies, contradictions and illogical" conclusions and ordering the new appeals court to look at all the evidence to determine whether Knox helped kill the teen. 

 Giuseppe Tornatore’s art world thriller “The Best Offer,” starring Geoffrey Rush, was the big winner at Italy’s David Awards, scooping six of the top Italo film nods, including best picture, director, and music, composed by Ennio Morricone. 

 Mario Balotelli showed his strength and rapidly developing talent Sunday, scoring in the 78th minute to lead Italy past Mexico 2-1 in the Confederations Cup. Balotelli took a perfectly placed acrobatic pass from Emanuele Giaccherini and muscled between two defenders. His goal broke a 1-1 tie in the Group A game, the first official match at renovated Maracana Stadium.

 Italy is now seriously threatened by its own ungovernability. The collapse of the so-called “Second Republic” dominated by Silvio berlusconi and the end of Mario Monti’s 18 months in power have left a cobbled-together, right-left-centrist government under Enrico Letta  with grim valleys of austerity to traverse and steep mountains of reform to climb. 

  Over the last two years, multiple cultural events in Sicily have been forced to close or dramatically scale back. And last year, when major budget woes hit the island’s Taormina Film Festival, it appeared the storied event could be next.

But the Italian midfielder's ability to find teammates on the field remains like no other. 

 Harley Davidson, the iconic American motorcycle company, has donated two of its bikes and a leather jacket to Pope Francis.According to the Holy See, the gift was in honor of an upcoming gathering of bikers at the Vatican June 14-16. On Saturday thousands of bikers will ride in a parade through the center of the Eternal City and past the Vatican.
