 Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti's government has reacted with concern at rising electricity and gas prices that are set to hit hard-pressed consumers already reeling from tough austerity measures and a sharp rise in the cost of living. 

Italy will put pressure on European Union leaders to look more toward efforts to boost growth in the euro zone rather than at austerity measures designed to rein in debt, Italian Industry Minister Corrado Passera told CNBC. 

The former Italy, Lazio and Cosmos star Giorgio Chinaglia has died of complications from a heart attack, his son said. He was 65.
