  • The National Organization of Italian American Women (NOIAW), awarded three "Wise Women" at their annual New York Region Epiphany Celebration. Members, family and friends gathered to honor three women who exemplify what it means to be a role model: Elizabeth F. Defeis, professor at Seton Hall University’s School of Law; Dr. Teresa Ghilarducci, Chair in Economic Policy Analysis at The New School for Social Research and Paola Prestini, composer, co-founder and artistic director of the National Sawdust.

    Alileen Riotto Sirey, Founder and Chair Emerita, National Organization of Italian American Women: “We can take joy that a woman has attained the nomination to the highest office in the land. But even putting gender issues aside, the Hillary I know is head and shoulders smarter, more experienced and better prepared to lead this country than Trump. We will certainly take even greater joy if she is elected.”
  • On June 10, 2010 the National Organization of Italian American Women celebrated its 30th Anniversary. Guests of honor were Lidia Bastianich and her family, "for being such an outstanding example of an Italian American family and for successfully promoting our heritage". For the occasion five young Italian-American women were awarded $5,000 NOIAW scholarships as a contribution and encouragement to pursue their studies
