The Fiat 500 turns 60 this week, and the occasion is being commemorated in a unique way. The Museum of Modern Art in New York incorporated a 500 F into its permanent exhibition. Fiat itself is producing a special edition of the car and a commemorative stamp, both of which are available in a limited run. The automaker has also released a nostalgic video with the new 500 as the star.

Given all the objects designed by Massimo Vignelli that are located in New York and its museums, we decided to publish a not-so-well-known drawing he made in the early 1990s, when he decided to stop “being a fashion victim” and create his own clothing line. The drawing and accompanying text are taken from Designed by Lella, an electronic book he assembled a few months before dying to celebrate his lifelong partnership with his beloved wife. He made the book available in pdf format free of charge.

Two years since his passing, we remember a man, a friend, and a great designer who left behind traces of Italy throughout New York. Massimo Vignelli worked in a wide range of fields, in interior design, environmental design, package design, graphic design, furniture design, and product design, and his clients at Vignelli Associates included high profile companies such as IBM, MTA, Poltrona Frau, Knoll, Bloomingdale’s and American Airlines.

Fashion designer and visionary Elio Fiorucci was found dead in his Milan home on Monday. He was 80 years old. Famous for their stretch jeans, his brand’s eccentric, funky and sometimes promiscuous image encapsulated the youthful enthusiasm which characterized the disco era during which the Fiorucci cherubs were such a powerful fashion force.
