Gaddafi, who has a women-only corps of bodyguards, met with 1,000 women on a visit to Paris in 2007. In that meeting he said he wanted to "save European women." In the last 10 years, since the Protected Marine Area of Portofino was founded, fish populations have grown as some activities became regulated or even banned, local officials, environmentalists, fishermen and divers said.
