 Americans are very familiar with Christmas, the day Christians celebrate the birth of Christ in Bethlehem on Dec. 25.But the visual scene people associate with the Christmas holiday with wise men, shepherds and angels all gathered around the Christ child, Joseph and Mary actually takes place on Jan. 6, on the holiday known as Epiphany. 

Petrol prices for unleaded fuel at four of Italy's major gas stations are poised to go up by Saturday, the trade publication Staffetta Quotidiana said on Monday. Esso, Shell, Tamoil and TotalErg will raise pump prices for unleaded gas to 1.806 euros per liter, up 0.6 cents, while Shell will increase the per liter cost to 1.828 euros. Market leader ENI will not top the 1.8 euro pump prices, capping per liter costs at 1.792 euros.

Authorities are preparing to mark the first anniversary of the cruise ship disaster that killed 32 people on January 13, 2012. It's expected that as many as 900 people will gather on the pier of Giglio Island off the Tuscan coast to commemorate the deadly events after the Costa Concordia hit a rock that caused the massive ship to capsize.

Ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi announced Monday that he has reached a deal for his People of Freedom (PdL) party to resume its alliance with the Northern League for next month's Italian elections. But Northern League leader Roberto Maroni said the pact "explicitly stated" that Berlusconi would not be Italian prime minister for a fourth time if the centre-right coalition wins.

Joseph Coccia Jr. wanted everyone to love Italy’s rich history and culture as much as he did. Coccia, of Saddle Brook, died Thursday at the age of 83 from heart and lung problems, Elisa Coccia said. She said his death is being mourned by many in the Italian-American community, where he was known for his work with the service organization UNICO National, as well as his own philanthropic initiative, the Coccia Foundation, and the Joseph and Elda Coccia Institute for the Italian Experience in America at Montclair State University.

New York - US sales of the Fiat 500 mini car jumped by 50% in December and by 121% over the full year, the Turin-based company said Thursday. The December figures for the Fiat brand - which only sells the 500 under its brand badge in North America - was the best for all group brands in that market and marked the 10th consecutive month of record sales.
