When you think of Italian wine, what comes to mind? Ever-foaming prosecco, perhaps? Tanker ships of pinot grigio? Or maybe it’s big-deal reds from Tuscany and Piemonte, with three-digit price tags attached.

It’s time for a fashion update.

 

 A stolen marble statue belonging to a family with ties to Mussolini made its way to Manhattan after its theft in the 1980s – and the feds are now working to return it to its rightful owners. 

 The installation artist Christo will unveil his latest project, a series of buoyant polyethylene cubes laid across Italy’s Lake Iseo that will create a nearly two-mile-long walking path, in June.  

Their star product? Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a complex, rustic red that helped secure their place as Italy’s first DOCG — the highest classification for Italian wines. 

Film composer Ennio Morricone received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday. Morricone is up for the Academy Award for Best Original Score at this Sunday's Oscars for "The Hateful Eight," but he's been creating memorable movie music since the 1950s.

 The most interesting Italian signs and inscriptions are rare, and usually have to be patiently hunted down. What distinguishes them is the variety of original shapes -- or letterforms -- that are sometimes used in situations that would be unthinkable in polite "Anglo" circumstances.
