Maria Mazziotti Gillan is among the most prolific authors in the Italian American community and the world of poetry. She has authored more than 20 poetry collections, including The Girls in the Chartreuse Jackets (Cat in the Sun Books, 2014); Ancestors’ Song (Bordighera Press, 2013); The Silence in an Empty House (NYQ Books, 2013).
Gillan is the Founder/Executive Director of the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College in Paterson, NJ and editor of the Paterson Literary Review. She received the 2014 George Garrett Award for Outstanding Community Service in Literature from the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP); the 2011 Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Award from Poets & Writers; and the 2008 American Book Award for her poetry collection, All That Lies Between Us (Guernica Editions).
Michael Palma has achieved accolades for his 14 translations of modern Italian poets include recent editions of Maurizio Cucchi and Giovanni Raboni with Chelsea Editions and prize-winning volumes of Guido Gozzano and Diego Valeri with Princeton University Press, as well as books by Luigi Fontanella, Franco Buffoni, Sergio Corazzini, and others. His fully rhymed translation of Dante’s Inferno was published by Norton in 2002 and reprinted as a Norton Critical Edition in 2007, which is acclaimed for its elegant rendering of Dante’s triple-rhyme scheme into contemporary English.
More recently, Palma’s own poetry has appeared in two chapbooks, The Egg Shape and Antibodies; two full-length collections, A Fortune in Gold and Begin in Gladness; and an online chapbook, The Ghost of Congress Street.
